A new oil launch for Messrs. A. Brett and Martin was launched by Mr. C. Bailey, jun., last Wednesday. The/launch, which is a 35-footer, is of the whaleboat type and is very nicely fitted out, there being a neat cabin finished in polished kauri and cedar. Mr. 0. Bailey, jun., sent away to Picton last week a 33ft oil launch, which he has built to the order of Mr. .-Harvey, of that town. She has been named the Britannia. Devonport Yacht Club hold a cruising race to Waiwera this afternoon, which will be- the wind-up of the club's season. Mr. F. E. N. Crombie, the popular commodore of the Auckland Rowing Club, is leaving for England shortly. He will be much missed by the club,' for which he has done a great deal of good work. Messrs. Bailey and Lowe have sold their well-known oil launch to Messrs. Jaggs and party, of St. Holiers Bay. The same build-ing-firm have a 30ft launch nearly finished for Wanganui; a 22ft launch, on the same lines as the Blue Bell, has been ordered for. If anything the crew is somewhat- stronger than the one the club sent down last year, and, as last year's performance was a. very creditable 'one (third out of nine starters), they, should go very close to a win this time. ' The club are only entering for the lightweight maidens at St. Heliers Regatta next Saturday. The crew will consist of R. B. Young, ,1. Cleat, W. Bloomficld, and E. Lambert. The men are enthusiastic and training hard, but against West, End and Waitemata I don't think they've much hope of pulling the race off. WAITEMATA BOATING CLUB. The Waitemata Boating Club will be represented this year at the championship regatta at Pictou by T. Richards in the Championship Sculls. It was the intention of the club to be represented (as in past years) by their heavy-weight maiden crew, which has been so successful during the season, having won the Whangarei Challenge Cup and the Dewar Challenge. Shield in the maiden event; but. owin.g.to the St. Helicrs Bay Regatta clashing with the date of the championship meeting, the club decided to enter this crew at the local regatta.
