THE RESOLUTIONS.

WKBTPORT, Saturday. The resolutions agreed to at the Westland Trades and Labour Conference included the following: That all coal mined on tonnage rates by weighed at mine mouth, when requested by the Workers' Union, and rt this is objected, to by the employers, the chairman of the Conciliation Board to decide ; that the Government be urged to amend section 69 of the Coal Mines Act, to provide that where two accident relief funds are worked jointly, the coal mine portion, shall pay half cost of management; that the Government be urged to increase the death allowance under the Coal Mines Accident Relief Fund from £25 to £50, the same to lie paid iTUeath occurs through sickness, as well a-B my accident; that the workmens' inspectors be paid for their inspection in both coal and gold mines by the Mines Department; that workmen's inspectors have power to order that any practice or thing shall be. discontinued, which, in their opinion, tends to injury oi danger of the workers, or order anything for the benefit of the workers to be done, and in event of recommendations of die workmen'.* inspectors not being carried out by the mine owner, they shall have right of appeal to the Warden, that the Minister for Mines be urged to appoint- a Commission to inquire into the working and ventilation of mines, such Commission to be composed of practical miners, half of whom shall be holders of mine manager's certificates, coal and quarts mines to have equal representation on the Commission; that all Sunday work in or about a mine be paiid for at the rate of double ordinary time, and that overtime be paid for at the rate of time and a-half. The delegates said they must go direct, to Legislature for these concessions, as the Arbitration Court ignored the men's demands by failing to make an award. It was also decided that the hours of labour in coal mines be not more than eight hours from surface to surface in any one shift.
