CAPTAIN SOUTHGATE'S COSTS.

Wellington, Wednesday. - A deputation from the Shipmasters' Association waited upon the Minister for Marine on February 28 urging that the Government should remit the costs (about £70) which Captain Southgate, master of the steamer'Kapanui, was ordered to pay by the Nautical Court, which inquired into the loss of his vessel in Auckland Harbour on Christmas Ere. The Minister replied that, in the face of the decision given by the court, he could not see his way to recommend any remission.
