REMUERA CHILDREN'S HOME
AN "AT HOME." The committee of the Children's Home, Kemuera-, entertained' a large number of ' guests, principally ladies, yesterday after- : noon and evening at- the institution in ' Portland Road. The occasion was the third anniversary of the opening of the home. The ladies of the Samaritan Guild have made the welfare of this home their especial study. The guests were received by the president, Mrs. Giles., and the hon. secrei tary, Mrs. Hay, tit the entrance door. Afternoon tea. was served in a marquee on she . ; lawn, and from the verandah floated the , I strains of an orchestra under Mr. Tremain. In the large diningroom and in the children*# ; playroom a quantity of plain and fancy . | work and articles of bijouterie, left over | from the recent sale of work at St. James' I Hall, were exposed for sale-, and although ! no one was pressed to buy, the • articles 1 j found many ready purchasers. The whole j of the building' was open to the inspection of the visitors, who expressed tliomselves de--1 lighted with the conduct of the establishment and the obvious well being of the 50 or so little ones at present housed therein, i In the evening a very enjoyable concert, ar- ' ranged by the Rev. Jas. Wilson, was held i in the large tiiningroom, which was quite [ filled for the occasion. The programme . consisted of songs by the Misses McLeod and Mrs.' Kasper; piano solos and duets by . the Misses McLeod, and recitation? by the , Rev. J. Wilson. Coffee, eta, was aibse- ! quently served to the guests.
