HOSPITAL AND CHARITABLE AID BOARD.

The ordinary meeting of the Auckland Hospital and Charitable Aid Board was oeld yesterday. Present: Messrs. J. McLeod (chairman), A. Sturges, C. Grey, W. R. Bloomfiold, A. Bruce, R. Rutherford, G. Knight, and J. Pitt.

The Dispensary: Dr. Hooper, reporting on the dispensary, stated that there were 36 new cases during the month, and that the average of daily attendances was nine, with a. daily average of three visits. The principal cases had been rheumatism and catarrh. There had been no infectious eases.

Rules: The now rules were adopted. By one of the changes in the rules candidates for tho honorary medical staff were rendered ineligible if they canvassed members of the Board. On the motion of the chairman, it was resolved, "'That any member of the honorary medical staff should be eligible for appointment to tho consulting staff after rive years' service, instead of ten years, us at present provided." Islands in Hauraki Gulf: Tho ValuerGeneral wrote requesting to know by what authority tho. Great Barrier and Waihcke islands tame to bo included within tho Board's jurisdiction for the purposes of the collection of hospital rates. The Board decided to draw the attention of the Premier to tho matter, and also to include other islands in the Hauraki Gulf for the purposes of collecting hospital and charitable aid rates. The chairman stated that the Board had to deal with cases from these islands as from the Auckland district.

Infectious Diseases Hospital: In reply to tho secretary's telegram to the AuditorGeneral, "Are the sums of £64 18s 3d and £30 8s 9d, infectious diseases expenditure. to be provided us prescribed by the Public Health Act, in the same manner as £2185 8s Id. referred to by you in balance-sheet for 1904-09?" the Auditor-General replied in the affirmative, providing the expenditure of these sums was incurred under the authority of the Public Health Act.

Hospital Alterations: The chairman moved. "That. Messrs. Bruce, Rutherford. Knight, Bloomfield, and the chairman be appointed a committee, together with a sub-committee from the honorary medical staff of the hospital, with respect, to additions and alterations to the hospital." He (the chairman) thought there should be no need to go out. of Auckland for an architect lor the proposed-works. Mr. Pitt urged that instead of the appointment of a committee, the Board a* a whole should deal with the matter hi special meetings. The chairman said the committee would, of course, report to the Board from time to time. Mr. Bloomfield supported the chairman's proposal, which was carried.

Local Bodies' Contributions: In reply to Mr. Bloomtiek!, the chairman said if was doubtful if the local bodies could look for a refund of any contributions during the current year.

Cost loy Home: The report on the Costley Home for the month stated that the inmates of the home consisted of 145 males and 36 females. There bad been four removals during Ihe month, one being by death.

Hospital Patients: The number of patients at the hospital during the past month was 171 males and 51 females. Eight patients had died in the institution.
