ANNIVERSARY DAY.

Monday being the 66th anniversary of the foundation of Auckland will be observed throughout the city as a public holiday.

The Anniversary Regatta, which has been arranged to take place in the harbour, off Queen-street Wharf, will no doubt prove to be the principal attraction, and in anticipation of a large attendance the commit have made every arrangement for the accommodation of the public. Messrs. Huddart, Parker, and Co., having kindly placed their fine steamer Zealandia at the- disposal of the committee as flagship, she will be moored in mid-stream, off Queen-street Wharf. Record entries have been received for the different events, and if the weather is fine an interesting day's sport should result.

The Takapuna Jockey Club will hold the second day's races of their summer meeting at Takapuna. on Monday, the first race starting at noon. The Matatoko Farmers' Union races will also be held, the trains stopping at Warahoe.

The Devonport Ferry Company will run steamers at intervals throughout the day to Motutapu, Lake Takapuna, St. Heliers Bay, Rangitoto, and to the fishing grounds. Excursions will be run by the Northern Steamship Company, Ltd., to Cowes' Bay, Waihcke, Waiwera and Mahurangi Heads, Kawau, and to Ponui Island.

An agricultural show will be held at Helensvillo on Monday, and special excursion trains will be run.

The members of the Devonport Bowling Club will hold a pairs tournament on their green.

In the evening the Knight-Jeffries Company will present "The Darling of the Gods" at His Majesty's Theatre, and Czerny will appear at the Opera House.

The carters' annual picnic takes place at Motutapu. Steamers leave the Coastal S.S. Company's wharf during the day. ■••'■•■■■•
