THE KING'S DRIVE.

. Sir,—ln your admirable descriptive article on King's Drive in your issue of yesterday you remark that the metalling, kerbing, and channeling of the road, which the Parnell Borough Council have contracted to perform as their share of this undertaking, should be carried out as soon as possible. This is, of course, true, and many anxious inquiries have been made as to when a start is to l>c made. Whenever asked about the matter, in or out of the Council, the reply of tlio Mayor has. so far as J can ascertain, bt-en that the affair was " in band." One would like a rather Jess vague pronouncement from Mr. Fitt. I would, therefore, suggest that at the next meeting of the Council he should inform the ratepayers: (1) Whether or no a loan will be required for the purpose of carrying out the King's Drive contract'/ (2) If such loan will be required, have any negotiations been entered into for raising the same? (3) Have any arrangements been entered into with regard to carrying out the work before the winter wet weather sets in? (4) Has anything definite, been done whatsoever, and, if so, explicitly what? A clear, concise and businesslike official answer to these questions would vastly interest ratepayers and residents, and remove the prevalent impression—very probably unjust—that the Mayor has let matters drift somewhat. I shad embody the tame queries in a letter to the Council, and anxiously await His Worship's reply. Thanking you for your courtesy. E. Wilfrid G. Rathbone. Gladstone Road, Parnell.
