MEETINGS.
COURT CITY OF AUCKLAND, A.O.F. The usual fortnightly meeting of Court City of Auckland, No. 3978, A.0.F., was held on Monday at the Foresters' Hall, Karangahape Road. The principal business of, the evening was the election of officers, the following being elected:—Chief ranger, Brother C. Daris; sub-chief ranger, Brother H. Elliot; senior woodward, Brother J. Smerdon; Junior Woodward, Brother J. Harding: senior beadle, Brother F. Murray; junior beadle, Brother W. B. Robinson; secretary, Brother Jas. Robinson; assistantsecretary, Brother Jno. Carlaw; treasurer, Brother J. J. Jenkins. The district chief ranger, Brother Rowland, and the district sub-chief ranger, Brother Harris, acted as installing officers.' The following were, elected delegated to the forthcoming district meeting: Brothers It. Darlow. P. Weir, C. Stichbury, H. Elliot, and C. Sheppard. The retiring chief ranger, Brother A. McCamish, was accorded a hearty vote of thanks for services rendered, and it was resolved to present him with a past chief ranger's neck ribbon and badge, and have his name placed on the respect board.
MOUNT ALBERT ROAD BOARD. A meeting of the Mount Albert Road Board was held on Monday evening, when there were present: Messrs. J. H. Harrison (chairman), M.J. Coyle, F. Evans, F. Ellisdon, and M. McLean. Mr. Stanton submitted a plan of Argylestreet, with a suggestion that future works in that street be carried out in accordance with the levels shown. The Board resolved to accept the plan and to thank Mr. Stanton for the trouble he had taken in tho matter. Tho clerk was instructed to draw the attention of the Agricultural Department to the Californian thistles growing on the railway lino and elsewhere in the district. The Board decided to meet about the middle of January to decide, which day of the week shall be observed as the weekly halfholiday for shops, and that any representations from shopkeepers be considered. It was decided not to hold the regular meeting which would fall clue on January 1, and that December 25, 26, and 27, and January 1, 2, and 3 lx> observed as office holidays. . An application was received for permission to establish soap-boiling works at Oakley Creek, arid it was resolved to grant permission provided that no objection bo offered by the district health officer or by neighbouring residents. DEVONPORT BOROUGH COUNCIL. A meeting of the Devonport Borough Council was held last evening, and was attended by the Mayor (Mr. E. W. Alison, M.H.R.), and Messrs. R. Logan, jun., W. Handley, W. W. Timewell, E. G. Ford, D. McLean, E. J. Osborne, J. B. Graham, C. P. Murdoch, and C. C. Dacre. The town clerk of the Auckland City Council wrote asking the Council to state whether they were agreeable to adopt the new city abattoir as the abattoir for tho district, and to outer into the necessary agreement. The matter was referred to the Street and WoAs Committee. A letter was received complaining of the state of tho saltwater baths, and it was decided to inform the writer that the matter was receiving the Council's attention. The Streets and Works Committee reported that the Devonport Yacht Club's application for the site asked for at Stanley-street was unsuitable for any but a small building, mil that that site be refused. The report v-.as adopted. The engineer of the waterworks reported that the coal consumption of the new engines was nearly 50 per cent, less than that of the old plant, with the auxiliary running. Two building permits were granted, sub- . jeefc to the usual regulations.
