The Auckland .Agricultural, and Pastoral ' Society's show will be 'opened • to-day at ' Alexandra- Park, judging commencing at • nine a.m. All the country. trains yester- "■ day brought full complements of visitors y from various parts of the. province, and i many also arrived by steamer, while fur--1 -..thor.large contingents are expected to-day ■ , AJid to-morrow morning.- The entry lists i ! having been so well filled, and the show I being considered a record both in ■ number I of entries and quality of exhibits coming [ forward, there is every reason to anticipate a record; attendance, and the-.town ' should be very full of visitors. Excel-, ■ lent programmes have -been arranged for both, to-day. and ... to-morrow, and, judging by the entries, great interest is being taken in the riding, driving, and jumping contests. Stock has been forwarded from all parts of the provincial district, and yester- . day afternoon and evening the park prei sented a 'scene of activity and animation,, a J large staff of men 'being engaged in makring final arrangements. Frequent tramway I services, will be ...throughout to- : day and .'.to-morrow, and, given fine weather, the gathering should be'the best and largest -on record. The following is the" programme for to-day: Judging will commence at nine a.m., and the amateur judging competition at ton a.in. The judging of the ladies* hacks commences at.' half-past one p.m., wirejumping competition at two p.m., Departi ment of Agriculture's demonstration of potato spraying at two p.m., judging of hunters at half-past two p.m., and following this will be the ladies* and gentlemen's driving competitions, and the tandem-driv-ing competition. The weight-guessing competition will be open on both days. The judges in. "the various sections are as follows:—Light horses, Messrs. R. 11. Aid- ■ worth, jun. (Silverhope), and H. Jerseys and Ayrshires, Mr. R. Baird ' (Gamaru); fat cattle, Mr. J. Strang; dairy cattle, Messrs. Robert Baird and J. Strang; judging competition. .Messrs. J.' H. Scott (Auckland), and R. Fisher (Puke--jiimn); Lincoln.sheep, Mr.'R. B. HamilJ ton (Manutski); shearing, Mr. A. McCoil 1 (Clevedon); pigs, Mr. C. Day (Tamahere); i butter, Messrs. T. W. Jones (Auckland) and i A. A. Thornton (Stock Department); hams ] and bacon, Mr. Trevor (Ponsonby); bread i and cakes, Mr.. J. M. Mennie (Auckland); I agricultural produce, etc., Mr. W. E. Harrison (Auck- | land) ; military competition, Colonel Davies and 'Lieutenant-Colonel Holgate. I In connection with the' show, a pacing competition is to he held at noon tomorrow.
