THE CITY MEMBERS. | A special meeting of the - City Council I was held at noon yesterday to elect their | representatives. There were present: The I Mayor (Mr. A. M. Myers), Messrs.; J. : Court, R. He was [ apposed on principle to the .selection of representatives who were not also members I'of the Council, but wished to make an exception to this rule in favour of Mr. John i McLeod, the present chairman, and would | nominate that gentleman for reappointment. I Mr. McLeod had a thorough grasp of the i business transacted by the Board, and had shown great zeal in this work. He had, therefore, no hesitation in asking the Council to set aside the rule.

The following members were then nominated —Messrs. J. McLeod, L. J. Bagnall, M.- Casey, and G. Knight. They were elected unanimously, Mr. Knight being the new member in the. place ot Mr. S. C. Brown. Mr. McLeod had sent a telegram from . Rotonia accepting nomination by the

ro-'.cl boards. , j Jl'r. Bagley said that Mr. McLeod had already been elected.- : * i ' j -Mr.. Collins : tie was asked by the road boards stand before the City Council elected him. • - • | Mr. Nicholson said it; seemed that if elected by the road beards Mr. McLeod would drop the City Council seat, and that lie would retain the latter if elected by the boards. / \ In answer to Mr. Bagley, 'the returning officer said there was nothing to prevent Mr. McLeod being ejected by the present meeting.
