TROUT FISH REGULATIONS.

V ' -o~- — AN OBJECTIONABLE LIMITATION • • clause At a meeting of the council of the Auckland • Acclimatisation Society last night (Mr. 1' red Earl, president, in the chair), a. letter was received from" Mr. T. E. Donne, head of the Tourist • Department, drawing the attention of the society to the fact that there ■was evidently an impression, among anglers that the clause in the fishing regulations limiting the catch of trout ner day for one rod to 3011? had been deleted. Instances where a" greater weight of tish had bwn taken had been brought under his notice, and in one case he had been advised that two ■ rods had taken over 4001b weight of .fish. The chairmau said that the limitation clause referred to had not been approved by the " ■ society, and representations had been made to Sir Joseph Ward' urging its repeal. The society' had been credited by anglers with having caused the clause to Ik - , inserted in. the regulations, and had m consequence teen unjustly criticised end reviled. The objectionable clause had, he believed, been drafted and inserted by the Tourist Department, acting on the recommendation of the inspector of fisheries, Mr. Ay sou. The representations made by the society to the Minister, had, however, as in the case of other matters brought under his notice, apparently claimed little or no attention and the only reply received was the stereotyped one that the matter would receive consideration. Mr. Earl concluded' 'by stating that j if a limitation was to be enforced the better j course would, in his opinion, be to limit the .catch fish per day to 32 in number, instead of to weight, as provided by f ,he clause' referred to. -
