CRICKET.
The second round of tho matches -in the district cup competitions wero concluded on Saturday. Parnell scored it victory over City, Ponsonby beat Grafton, anil Mount Eden defeated North Shore. Paruell have won both their engagements, as also have •Eden. , 'Ponsonby. and North Shore have each won one match, while Grafton and City have twice been defeated. ■ In a review of tho past season in England Cricket says of Trumper:—"lie was in 1902 as dazzling as Ranjitsinhji, and, like him, seemed to juggle with the ball, but Banjitsiuhji's juggling was scientific, while Truniper's was only the result of a combination of a wonderful eye, great confidence, much good hick, and a certain panic among the bowlers, who for the most part were unable to do themselves justice when opposed to him. But if Trumper can learn to restrain himself, and to remember that, although from the pavilion a brilliant innings of '10 may seem more attractive than a sound one of 100, it does not look as well 011 paper, lie may recover his lost ground entirely, and be. tho greatest batsman of his day, for lie lias youth on his side."
