HOUSE BURNED AT WAIHI.
[BY TELEGRAPH.—OWN* CORRESPONDENT.] " \ , ; ■ Waihi, Tuesday. A BOAKDiNGHOUSiE, consisting of 11 rooms, , was destroyed by. fire last night about twelve o'olock in Upper Main-street. The house was occupied by Mrs. Kayes, and owned by Mr. J. May. There were nin<J ; boarders in the house at the time of the ' outbreak. Owing to the strong wind blow' ing the plaoo was scon enveloped in flames* but an exceptionally strong supply of water, prevented the fire spreading to the adjoin* ing buildings. The fire originated in a bed* room occupied by two of the g-iils, but it is not known how it commenced. One of the girls awoke to find the room on fire. She ,;, awoke her companion, and the rest of the - inmates were then aroused. No insuraaca was held either 00 the building or the fur- j niture. Mr. May owned practioally all th« furniture. Th« fire brigade worked hard, * , and tho strong pressure ot the water bui*t y. the hose in two places. \
