THE SAN FRANCISCO MAIL.
ARRIVAL OF THE VENTURA. The mail steamer Ventura arrived from San % Francisco and island ports yesterday morn- ' I ing, and being granted pratique berthed at the Queen-street Wharf, where the passengers and their luggage were promptly landed and the work of discharging cargo proceeded with. The Ventura left San Francisco on the afternoon November 2, with a, full complement of passengers, all tliei berths available in each class being filled, - whilst the cargo carried was one of the largest ever carried by any; steamer of this line. Very fine weather prevailed on the ' . run to Honolulu, whero the steamer arrived on the Bth. Passengers to the numbei? ' of 163 were landed, and also a large quantity of cargo, and owing to the latter tha voyage was riot resumed until the morning of the 9th, when the steamer left for Paget . \ Pago. Fine weather conditions still prevail/ f//1 ed, and the Samoan port was made on the ' ! * 15th. A considerable quantity of cargo wa4 lauded, and the Ventura left for. Auckland : • tho same date, and being favoured with fineT, weather picked up her pilot at twenty-fiv® minutes to seven a.m. yesterday, and reached tho anchorage shortly afterwards. The steamer's actual time from San Francisco to . Auckland was 18 days two hours 53 minutes, the steaming time being 17 days 19 hours 23; I minutes. Tho Ventura had a fair number of pas< sengers for Auckland, and also for Australia, and the cargo consisted of 2926 tons, ofi .- ( which 1563 tons were for Auckland. In) , J eluded in the shipments for Auckland were J the' usual lines of American merchandise/ besides 6000 bags and cases of potatoes.
The mails by the Ventura were of thfl following dates: London, October 21; New? York, October 28; San Francisco, Novem* ber 2; Honolulu, November 9; Samoa, No j vember 16. The Southern : portion of the mails were taken out to Onehunga and transhipped to the Ngapuhi, which crossed the Manukau Bar, for New Plymouth in the afternoon. The Ventura is timed to leave for Sydney at two o'clock this afternoon, and is due a 4 S the New South Wales port on Sunday morn' ing next.
