VOLUNTEERING NEWS.
FRANKLIN MOUNTED RIFLES, The match between a team from the Prometheus' and the? -Franklin Mounted Rifles took place last Saturday at; the Clevedon range, the latter winning by 61 points. The condition's were: Fifteen men a-sido, highest 10 to count, at 200 yds and 500 yds, seven shots at each, with one sighter. -Private Kempton, for the local team, scored 61; and for the Prometheus A.B.'s Lew and Menzie, 57 each. The following are the scores : — Franklin Mounted Rifles: Private Kempton, 61 Private O. White, 60; Private MeKeo, 59; R.Q.M.S. C. Atcheaon, 59; Sergeant Tattersell, .53; : Private Hyde, 57; Lieutenant MeKenzie, 55; Private .1. Don, 54; Sprgoant-Major Shaw, .53; Private A. Smith, 57; total, 573. . n.M.s. Prometheus: A.B. Bew, 57; A.B. Menzie, 57; A.B. Mansell, 54; A.B. Palmer, 52; A.B. English 52'; A.B. Miller, 50: A.B. Mathews, 49; Lieutenant Arnaud, 47; A.B. Bartlett, 46; Gunner -Willde, *5; total, 509. , * SHOOTING CONTEST AT WAIUKU. -A shooting contest,' 15 men a-side, veterans and civilians v. Waiuku Mounted Rifles, took place on the riflo range at Waiuku on November 16. The ranges were 200 yds and 500 yd*, seven shots at each range. The contest was very close, throughput, the former having a lead of .13 points on leaving the 200 yds range.. Tho volunteers won by seven points. In the evening the losing team paid for a dinner.
