“TOO MUCH OF HIS OWN WAY.”
HEALTH OFFICER'S INTERFERENCE
RESENTED.
At a meeting of the Newmarket Borough Council last night a letter was received from the district health officer (Dr. Frengley) in collection with the drainage on Mr. Bodley's property, opposite the Captain Cook Brewery, stating that from the standpoint of the health of future inhabitants one of the most important places to be dealt with was the section about which he understood Mr. Bodley had written to the Council. It was almost certain that houses would go up on the property whether there was drainage or a sewer-or not. Any house erected on this situation without proper drainage was likely to be dangerous to public health, and with a view to arriving at a decision which should render the- present objectionable area satisfactory, he would suggest that the Council should allow him to confer with a committee and the engineer. The letter caused a considerable. amount of discussion. Mr. R. Holmes said: "I think that Dr. Frengley wants to have too much of his own way. He tries to rule all the borough councils. I think this Council knows what is to be done without being dictated to by Dr. Frengley." Mr. Edgerley agreed with Mr. Holmes, and said: "It' is time wo put our foot on Dr. Frengley ; he. is getting too impertinent altogether, and wo are not going to be told by him what we have got to do." It, was then resolved, on the motion of 'Mr. Kinder, "That on completion of tin* present contract the Council will submit to Dr. Frongley's Department the work it proposes to carry out."
