BOROUGH COUNCILS.
GREY LYNN.
The Grey Lynn Borough Council met last evening, there being present: The Mayor (Mr. J. Farroll) and Messrs. A. Donald, A. A, Creamer, W. W. Dumper, W. Dimery, W. S. Smith, G. Sayers, W. Murray, W. Martin, and C. B. King.
The Archhill Gully: A letter was received from the Auckland town clerk (Mr. H. W. Wilson) in reference to the question of abating-the.nuisance existing in connection with tho Archhill gully. The Mayor said that now that- the warm weather was coming on it was necessary that something should be done to minimise*, the nuisance complained of. The Council, he said, was interested as one of the contributing bodies, and would be required to pay its proportion of the cost of improvement. The matter was referred to the Finance Committee.
Surrey Crescent: The Mayor referred to the necessity for improving the footpath in Surrey Crescent, and it was resolved to proceed with the work as soon as possible, j Disposal of Refuse::- It was decided to communicate with the City Council as to the terms on which the latter body will treat the borough refuse at the city destructor. ONEHUNGA.
The Onehunga Borough Council met last evening. Overdraft: The town clerk announced an overdraft of £429 17s Id.
Victoria-street: Messrs. Sharp© and Stewart wrote requesting that the footpath in Victoria-street be tarred and' banked to Church-street. Referred to the Streets Committee.
Donation: Mr. Blyth offered to place a seat at the corner of Trafalgar-street and Auckland Road. Referred to the Streets Committee for consideration. ' - .
Water Consumption: The turncock reported having pumped 1,390.000 gallons of water during the past fortnight. Tenders: Tenders were received as follows for the erection of a shelter shed at the Waikaraka cemetery :— F. McKenzie £50 16s (accepted); E. Morton, £61. The estimate was £50.
Water to Shipping: It was agreed that the application from the Northern Steamship Company for a reduction in the price of water to shipping be not. acceded to. Hall Licenses: On the report of the sanitary inspector it was agreed that licenses be not issued to the Public and Foresters' Halls for the ensuing year unless certain improvements were, effected. Mangere Bridge: The Mayor suggested that the Council meet the Mangere Road Board after the general election with a view to obtaining a grant from the Government towards the maintenance of the Mangere Bridge. . Streets Watering: It was! agreed to water Queen-street, from Grey-street, corner to Captain-street, thrice daily. Mr. Osborne considered it a hardship that while residents of Queen-street would get the road watered without cost ho and others off the main road had to pay 10s for a hose. Waterworks: It was agreed that a new boiler be procured for use at the pumping station at a cost of £450. ;' Unsightly Posts: After discussion it was resolved to enter an emphatic, protest against the number of unsightly telephone posts erected in the borough. Street Nomenclature: Mr. Hutchison gave notice to move. "That Green Hill-street be treated as a continuation of Grey-street, and named accordingly. ' ,
