UNIVERSITY COLLEGE COUNCIL.
A MEETING of the Auckland University College Council, held yesterday afternoon, was attended by the chairman (Sir G. Maurice O'Rorke), the Rev. J. H. Simmonds, Dr. McDowell, - and Messrs. "Arthur M. Myers (Mayor •' of Auckland), S.. Luke (chairman of the Auckland Education Board), G. L. Peacocke, and T. U. Wells. Mr. G. Hogben, Inspector-General of Schools, was also in attendance. The council went into commiteo to confer with Mr. Hogben upon matters relating to the erection of new university buildings. A letter was read from the secretary of the Auckland Education 'Board notifying the aoDointment of Mr. Herbert, A. E. Milries,"B.Sc., as principal of the Auckland Training College, and asking the council to consider the question of appointing him to the position of lecturer on the theory and principles of education at the college. Upon the motion of the chairman the council appointed Mr. Milnes to the position suggested, stipulating that his duties as lecturer on education at the college should commence next year. . • The chairman of tho Professorial board wrote stating that the . examiners recommended that the Sir George Grey Scholarship be awarded to Mr. S. N. Ziman, and the Sinclair Scholarship to Miss Susannah Wildmah. The recommendations were adopted. Upon the recommendation of the examiners for the Sir George Grey Scholar-, ship Mr. J. H. Adams was awarded special mention. _ . ' Accounts amounting to £518- 3s 9d were passed for payment.
