[BY telegraph.—own CORRESPONDENT.] Cokomaxiiei,, Saturday. Carlyon and party, .tributers in the Old Hauraki mine, crushed at the School of Mines battery three tons of general dirt, and 51b of picked stone for a "return of 17oz. sdwt of melted bullion, valued at £55. OLD ALBURNIA. [by telegraph.— own c(RRESPONDENT.] Thames, Saturday. The main tunnel in the Old■! Albumin, mine has been extended a further.distance, of 22ft for the. week. The country in the face is still favourable for good progress, being a mild blocky sandstone, but the soft heads through the country make it necessary to timber the ground to keep it safe for working. This somewhat retards progress. VICTORIA. [BY TELEGRAPH: CORRESPONDENT.] •■"'.-;■' Thames, Saturday. Excellent progress is' still being made with the No. 4 level crosscut in the Victoria mine, and the total distance of 520 ft has been driven. As the distance required to cut, the Waiotahi reef was 530 ft, according to the survey' of Mr. E. F. Adams, the face-, of the drive should now be within i about 10ft of that point, and the reef may be cut. at any time after the middle of next week. .The "country in., the face is a good firm sandstone:. At the No. 3 level the drive on the Victoria reef is now passing through the eastward break to pick up the reef on the other side. The drive on the. Victoria reef at the intermediate level and the slopes on the hangingwall leader at No. 1 level are still being pushed, on, and good prospects are being met with at both places. Colours of gold have been seen through the quartz regularly when breaking down, and a few pounds of picked stone have been selected. A parcel of 18 loads of quartz is how being treated, at the May Queen Extended battery, and the crushing will be completed some time next week. KURANUI-CALEDONIAN. [BY TELEGRAPH.—OWN CORRESPONDENT.] . .Thames, Saturday. In the development works on the. Cambria reef at the No. 4 level of the KuranuiCaledonian' mine the drive on the hangingwall side is being continued both east and west. At tile eastern end the reef looks about the same, and is still encased in a good firm sandstone country; but no further gold has been seen as yet. At the western face a break has been met with, and it is impossible to say , so far what effect this will'have upon the reef as the' drive advances. Driving lias also been commenced on another lode that was cut in the crosscut nearer the shaft. This is a lode about 12in in thickness, and from its appearance is well worth prospecting. Although no gold hasbeen seen, in it, still the quartz looks promising, and the country is of a favourable nature. NEW MAY QUEEN. \ [BT telecraph.—own correspondent.] Thames, Saturday. ; In the cleaning up from the New May Queen .mine 42 loads of general ore and 501b ,of - picked : stone, .obtained ~ from the winze, on No. 4 lode, were treated, also a.; j trial parcel of 10 loads from a block of': ground that was left on No. 4 lode above No. 3 level. The quartz from the winze below No. 5 level, which has been sunk to a depth of 75ft, averaged over soz to the load. The trial parcel of 10 loads was obtained from a rise put up for a height of about 20ft in a block of'ground that was left in some years ago above No. 3 level, and the quartz assayed about loz per load. This will pay well to stope out, the block being an extensive one. The No. 4 lode in the winze continues to look well, and some of the pieces of picked stone secured from the quartz at the last breaking down were the best seen yet in the winze. The No. 6 level crosscut "bits been extended 9ft for the week. The country in the face now is not quite so hard, but is difficult to blast. According to the plan, there is about another lift to drive to intersect the lode. The survey is based on 'the assumption that the reef runs down vertically, and as the reef at the bottom of the winze at present- shows a little underlie away from the crosscut, there may be a few feet further to drive in consequence. In any case, however, another week should, about see the reef either to hand or very close. The point where the crosscut will inter-sect the reef is about 40fl distant from the bottom of the winze. : NEW SAXON. [by TELEGRAPH.—OWN correspondent.] Thames, Saturday. The drive on the No. 1 Cardigan lode at the No. 4 level of the Saxon mine is being continued with one shift. The reef is looking much better, bo in size and quality, and some nice dabs and colours of gold were seen through the reef in breaking down yesterday. It is intended to increase the staff at this work, and two shifts will be put on her© next week. The winze below* No. 4 level is now down to a depth of 15ft. The lode at the bottom is about 6in in thickness, and shows colours of gold through the quartz. This work is being temporarily suspended until the water gets clear of the No.' 6 level. In the stopes above the level the lode is rather small at present, but gold is seen freely at each breaking down. NEW MOANATAIARI. [BY TELEGRAPH.OWN correspondent.] ■ .;, '• "' ' Thames, Saturday. * In the New Moanataiari mine the intermediate drive east from the main rise on the big reef has now been extended a total distance of 75ft, and is still being continued. A better class of country appears to be coming in on the hangingwall, which will probably have the effect of improving the quality 'of the reef. In the Cambria section, the drive eastward of the old workings at No. 3 level-has been extended a further 10ft for tin- week. Veins of quartz aie being met with as the drive advances, and when driving eastward is commenced on the course of the main ore body these veins and leaders will most probably concentrate into it. This the manager thinks would improve the chances of meeting with payable gold at this point. DREDGING RETURNS. [BY telegraph.— ASSOCIATION.] Denedin, Saturday.
