At a meeting of the executive of the Bowling Association, a letter was received from the Northern Association, stating that it would accept the stamp of the New Zealand Association as trie test for bowls in the case of Southern players taking part in the Northern tournament. Wellington,- Saturday. Yesterday the Wellington police arrested Robert Grieve, alias Thomas Grear, wanted since January 1, on a charge of deserting from the Royal Garrison Artillery at Hongkong, and William Sutherland, who deserted from H.M.s. Phoebe at Auckland in December, 190*. Hastings, Saturday. In the Police Court John Reid, for forging a cheque for £2, pleaded guilty, and was committed to Wellington to be sentenced by a Supreme Court judge. Mrs. A. Hastings, aged 83, was found dead in her kitchen last night. The oause of death was heart disease. Deceased was an old identity of Hastings. 'At the inquest to-day a verdict was returned that death was due to failure of a diseased heart. CHKISTOHTJKCH, Saturday. The balance-sheet- of the Ashburton and North . Canterbury Charitable Aid Board for the year ending March 31, 1905, has been issued.
