THE HELPING ; HAND MISSION. The celebration of the 20th anniversary of the Helping Hand Mission was commenced by.services in the Choral Hall yesterday. Owing to the unfavourable weather, the morning ami afternoon meetings were not as well attended a.s usual. The morning gathering was presided over by the Rev. J. A. Luxford, who preached a practical sermon from the text, "Workers together with Christ." Mr. Luxford also referred to the Trafalgar celebration, and drew some practical lessons from the life of Lord Nelson. The afternoon meeting was addressed by Mrs. Harrison Lee. The hall was densely crowded for the evening service. The superintendent of the mission, the Rev. B. F. Rothwell, gave the address. A feature of all the gatherings was the recital of the Scriptures by junior members of the. school, those taking part being: Masters Watt and Hindman, and Misses Little, Clarke, Day, King, and Owens. A ohoir of about 300 voices, assisted by an orchestra, contributed very much to the success of eaoh meeting. The anniversary oelebrations will be continued to-night in the same building, when the social meeting will bo held, preceded by a tea. Sister Kenneth will give a statement of her work. Full particulars are announced in our advertising columns. THE CENTRAL MISSION. Mr. W. H. Suckling, from Wellington, preached at the Albert-street Hall yesterday morning, and at His Majesty's Theatre last evening. The superintendent stated that there was abundant scope for aggressive evangelistic work in the Central Mission for any unemployed Christians who might be present.
