A very enjoyable gathering took place in the Federal Hall, AYellesley-stroet, last week, the occasion being the third annual social of the- New Zealand Railway Officers' Institute. This event was so successful that it exceeded all expectations. Three of ' the largest rooms wore used for the occasion, tho main hall being occupied for dancing, and the second hall for progressive' euchre, and a third large room was laid out with supper tables to seat about 150 people. Fourteen tables were engaged at euchre from eight p.m. to ten p.m., and about 90 couples were engaged in dancing. After the adjournment for supper the euoliro was discontinued, and all engaged in dancing until the small hours of the morning. . Owing to the exertions of the committee, and especially tho ladies, to whom great credit is due, all the arrangements were carried out in a very satisfactory manner. Besides the decorations of tables by the ladies, both the hall for euchre and dancing wore very tastefully decorated with nikau palms and ferns. The music of Mr. Meredith's band and tho catering of Mr. Griffiths gave great satisfaction. A SURE THING. Is 6d invested in a bottle of Chamberlain's Cough Remedy will give you moro i satisfaction than twico that sum spent in other cures. Chamberlain's Cough Remedy is an unfailing cure for coughs, colds, croup, and whooping cough and is perfectly safe and pleasant to lake.
