They got £2000 as against S given to the others. la regard to \etenuary work,. he said he did wish something more could be done in training veteri"Hrf S " l 'W in the colony. He was sorry r If 1 iaey ™ nleil veterinary surgeons they had to go out of the colony for them. Hi regard to permanent grants for special j work, when submitting the matter to Parliament .he was inclined to increase the amounts. Victoria College was to specialise m law, but they found that two lecturers were needed— for New Zealand law, and the other for English and Roman law; but with the money available they found they could not do what they had contracted to do. They, therefore, asked for an increased! sum.. If the Government gave Wellington •an increased sum for law they would have to give Dmied'in an increased sum for medicine and a veterinary college. Auckland and Canterbury would then have to be treated in the same way. It amounted to this, that the proposals in the special Act would have to provide for a, grant of £2000 to each of the colleges. That brought him, to the question of buildings. -thousand pound's had been paid to Otago and the other £1000 would be paid.
Mr. Jas. Allen: Increase it to £3000.
Mr. Seddon: I suppose we must do something. We must certainly do something at Auckland. The buildings there are in a terrible condition. Mr. Seddon oddest that lie wished to do justice to the University. He admitted excellent work had been done at Dunedin.
