VOLUNTEERING NEWS.
aO THAMES VOLUNTEERS. [by telegraph.— correspondent.] ■Thames, Wednesday. An inspection of the combined volunteer companies and Battalion Band took place last evening by Lieutenant-Colonel Davies, 0.8. . There was an excellent muster of both companies present. The No. 1 Thames Rifles wero under the command, of Captain Pearse, and the Hauraki Rifles of Captain Lefevre. The Battalion Band, under Bandmaster Clark, was also present. Colonel Davies was accompanied by LieutenantColonel Porritt, officer commanding .the Hauraki Battalion, and Captain and Adjutant Sommerville. After the inspection, Colonel Davios expressed his satisfaction with : the muster and the efficiency of the Thames corps. The practical examination of the following officers of the Thames corps for commissions was then held, with apparently satisfactory results:Captaia Pearse, Lieutenant Hetherington, and Lieutenant Spraggon.
