Stanbury, the champion sculler, has declined the offer he has received to defend the sculling championship in Canada, on the ground that he would arrive at Van-, couver only three weeks -before; he would be required to race, and that was not sufficient time for him to train and reduce the weight he would gain during the voyage. - A FIRE. Perth, July 26.' A fire at Leunonville has destroyed a hotel and eight shops. • BOOKMAKERS' PEES. Melbourne, July 26. The bookmakers strongly resent the decision of the Victoria Racing Club to increase their fees for attendance at the Flemington meetings. It is expected that they will organise to oppose the increases, SOOTH AUSTRALIA'S NEW MINISTRY. Adelaide, July 26. A Labour Ministry has been formed, with Mr. Price as Premier, Commissioner of Works, and Minister for Education; Mr. Peake, Treasurer and Attorney •General ; Mr. O'Loughlin, Minister,for Lands, Mines, and Agriculture and Mr. Kirkpatrick, Chief Secretary, Minister for Industry, and Leader in the Council. (Received July 26, 9.5,8 p.m.) Adelaide, July 26. The new Ministry met Parliament to-day, and the House adjourned until August 8, to give the Government, time to prepare a programme for the session. Mr. Butler has been elected Leader of the Opposition. THE WEST AUSTRALIAN CRISIS. Perth, July 26. In the event of a division on the noconGdence motion resulting in the defeat' of the Government, which is considered inevitable, it is understood that the Premier intends to ask for a dissolution. STATE BRICKWORKS. Melbourne, July 26. In the Legislative Assembly Mr. Bent, in moving the Surplus Revenue Bill, announced yesterday that the surplus for the year from all sources was £508,000. Amongst the items included in the Bill is £9600 for the erection of State brickworks. Mr. Bent declared that he would not allow the State to be robbed by a combine who wished to charge £2 per 1000 for bricks when they could get them at 255.
