SALLYING POINTS OF THE RUSSIAN REVOLT.

THE MUTINY AT ODESSA. \ Though the greater part of Russia's im- ! mense population of about 110,000,000 is ( engaged in agriculture, there are, as this jj diagram shows, many large industrial cen- . tres. Some of these are advancing very ' rapidly in wealth audi population; the inhabitants of the town of Lodz, for example, now, number 500 per cent, more than they did 30 years ago. Textiles—cotton'and wooliron, shipbuilding, oil, tallow, soap, spirits, leather form the principal Rus-, eian industries. Most of the factories are comparatively small, but in St. Petersburg, Odessa, Libau, and Lodz there are establishments employing from 2000 to 12,000 hands each. The Russian workers are fairly intelligent—sometimes very highly sobut their -craftsmanship is not of the finest order, and the industries are still largely under German and, English direction. The chief point of interest is Odessa, where, , ■ , - , ' • . »•' according to the latest cables, the mu- i . - tineers of the Kniaz Potemkine defied the authorities' on shore, and also Admiral Kruger, who proceeded' from Sebastopol to Odessa, in order to suppress the mutiny. Apparently he was unsuccessful in his mission, as no shot seems to havo been fired, or any effort made to capture the battleship. The reason that no shot was fired is probably the general disaffection in the fleet. Eventually Rear-Admiral Kruger returned with his fleet to Sevastopol. It is also reported that another battleship, tho Georgi Pobiedonosteff, joined the Kniaz Potemkine. Nicolaev is the headquarters, of the Black Sea Fleet,_ and is shown on the above plan, a little to the right of Odessa. ' , ■ ■ . (l
