THE FRANKLIN SEAT.

Wellington, Saturday. Mr. MoCarDLE, one of the members of the Land Commission, is again announced as the Government candidate to contest the Franklin seat with Mr. Massey at the coming election. It is not supposed that either Mr. McCardle or the Government hope to win the seat, and in Opposition circles the object of the Government in bringing forward Mr. MoCardle is regarded as mainly to keep Mr. Massey within his own district as far as possible during the election campaign.
