THE FRUIT TRADE.

[BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.

Wellington. Tuesday. The total number of packages of fruit imported into New Zealand during the, year ending March 31 last, was 587,177, against 573,398 packages- for the previous-season. Wellington received 211,913 packages, Auckland 343,458, Christehurch 60,811, Dunedin. 62,553, and Bluff 8*42. The quantity, condemned was 42,431 packages, against 40,887 packages during' the 1903-4 season. At Auckland 25,052 packages were condemned, Wellington 10,032, Cliriitchurch,4s67, and Dunedin 2760. Tho reason'that, Auckland show* a much larger condemnation is because.,the greater portion of the Island fruit-is examined at that port,-' there being no facilities in the Islands for fumigation. The principal pests are scale, fruit fly, and oodlin moth. The percentage condemned was not so lari?< as in 1905-4, the quality oTiho fruit import ed showing on the whole air improvement.
