ORCHARD AND GARDEN PESTS ACT.
[nv TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.] Wellington*, Tuesday. The Orchard and Garden Pests Act has now been in operation for about a year, and according to the Government biologist it has already had a good effect, as numbers of people who had previously taken little or no action in controlling disease amongst their orchards have commenced systematic spraying. There are, however, some orchardists who have done nothing in this respect, and in the interest of the fruit industry next season they will have to comply with the conditions of the Act. - in regard to the administration of which the Department of Agriculture ha; been lenient, in order to enable growers to make themselves thoroughly acquainted with its provisions.
