LAND VALUES IN RODNEY COUNTY.
A.v important meeting of landholders of Rodney (.'aunty was held :". the Masonic Hall, Warkworth, to consider the most advisable steps to take re the revaluation of Rodney. Mr. A. Hood was voted to the chair. Mr. Williams said valuers listened too much 10 gossip and Mr. Leeds (Malakana) cited several cases of glaring discrepancies in Matakana district. Mr. Clayden stated that lie was valued in one case 25 per cent, over what lie would take, ami in another case he was prepared to take half what tho property was valued at. A number of those, present, stated that they thought tho valuation proceedings a farce, us the valuer did not even look at home of their land, and in most eases took the best, lands as a sample. All agreed that, more money was wanted for the necessary works, but thought the- Council should have doubled the present rate. Mr. Cruickshanks moved that a committee of twelvo bo appointed to employ a solicitor to defend their cases. Mr. Kensington seconded, and the motion was carried. The following gentlemen form the committee to defend eases:—Messrs. Kensington, Clayden, Hood, Phillips, Cruick. shanks, with power to add to their number. Mr. Sainsbnry moved; "That this meeting pass a resolution to the effect that the revaluation of Rodney County is ridiculous, and that the Court's attention be drawn to the fact that in many cases valuations wen* made without the valuei even seeing the land." Tho resolution was carried.
