• Mi. James Black, of Messrs. A. and T. Burt. Limited, and Mrs. Black, have returned to Auckland from the South, to take up their residence in Auckland.
Mr. George Fenwick. of Napier, who has been on a visit to the Hot Lakes district, arrived in Auckland by the express last evening. He leaves for Napier by the Westutlia on Tuesday.
At the monthly meeting of the Grey Lynn No-license League, on Thursday evening, it was resolved that Mr. George Fowlds be accorded the support of the temperance party in Grey Lynu at the general election.
Sir Henry and Lady Miller, of Fernhurst. Oamaru, Misses Tescbemaker, ami Mr, and Mrs. Joachim, of Maheno, have rfrrived in Auckland from Wellington. They propose shortly touring the Hot Lakes district.
• Mr. J. T. Coote, son of Mr. J. M. Coote, of Paeroa. has been transferred from the Pacific? Cable Station. Doubtless Bay, to the cable station at .Suva. Fiji. He will go by the Iris, on the 12th mat., to take up his new duties.

Mr. W. J. Campbell, of Diuiediu, is at present chief engineer of the steamer Banffshire, with Mr. Cowan second, Mr. A. Kerr third. Mr. McKianon fourth, Mr. Butter* fifth, and Mr. W. Cooke (14© of the Perthshire) refrigerating engineer.
At a meeting of the Coromandel District High School Committee last evening (wires our correspondent), Miss A, M. Nixon (of the Driving Creek 'school) was appointed assistant mistress, vice Miss M. Egan, who is being transferred to the Newton West school.
The Hon. W. Hall-Jones. Minister for Public Works, is at present inspecting the North Island Main Trunk line. He is due in Auckland on Monday. Messrs. .\. Kidd and F. Lawry, M.H.B.'.'-. went up the line yesterday to* meet the Minister, and will letui a with him.
Our Dunedin correspondent wired last night :—Captain Fleming, who has been appointed superiutentent of mercantile marine at Auckland, was a passenger by the Talune. which left Dunediu to-day. Prior to their departure Captain and Mrs. Fleming were the recipients of several presenta> lions.
