Mr. Henry Cunynghame, who has been lecturing on " Ancient and Modern Methods of Measuring Time," at the Royal Institution, exhibited some curious and interesting models. One was a model of a clock at Basle which put out its tongue. The original clock was fixed up after a quarrel between the north and south quarters of the town by 'the successful party, in ridicule of its opponents. Another model represented a naughty boy in bed. At the time for him to rise, an electric bell rang ; as he took no notice, the clothes were pulled off by a cord from the wall; then a, trap opened in the wall above the bed, and a torrent of water descended on the model of the lazy boy, who sat up at last, with his curly hair sopping wet. There are stil country -.lergymen who hunt to a ripe old age, and enjoy thatinnocent amusement as keenly as anyone. We are not among those who hold that country clergymen should not enjoy country sports. Quite th* contrary. Their lives are often exceedingly lonely and isolated, and the tendency is for the rural vicar to become, oppressed bj the want of" ordinary educated society.—County Gentleman. ' v "''.■.;
We gladly own that we have been very much benefited by British rule in India. We have learned many valuable lessons which will never be forgotten, and we are prepared to learn many things more. But we certainly disdain" to stand a homily on truth from -the mouth of a clever diplomat like Lord Curzon.— Reviewj Madras.
