MEETING OF RATEPAYERS.
Thk annual meeting of ratepayers of the Epsom Road District was held in the Newmarket Public Hall last evening, the chairman of the Board, Mr. W. K. Bloomfield, presiding. The annual report, among other matters, stated that the revenue from all sources during the past year had been £1543 6s Id, as against £1370 15s 6(1 fo; the preceding year, while the expenditure totalled £2010 16s 9d. as against £1441 13s sd. In order to carry out. the urgent necessary works, the Board had to overdraw its bank account to the extent of £467 JOs Bd, but much important work had been done without resorting to a loan. With the present available revenue, and the natural increase that might be expe< tod in tin* course of the next few years, it was hoped that the overdraft would 1* steadily reduced, and the district would he able again to live within its income. Road and footpath formation and repair had been responsible foi the heavy outlay of the year, no less than £1100 having been expended on the main Manukau Road. The Board had not yet received from the Valuation Department the increased valuations for the year, but it was expected that there would be a fail addition to the revenue from this source. By arrangement with the One-tree Hill Board lamps bad been erected at all tram stopping-places on the main road, and a concession of 3s per lamp in the lighting charges bad been obtained from the (las Company, As a result of represent tions made, the general manager had, subject to the approval of the Home directors, agreed to grant, a 3d return fare between Newmarket and Alexandra Park, wit?: the right to buy tickets in parcels.. This, with the 3d return fare between Newmarket and the city, would give a 6d return fare between Auckland and Alexandra Park. Mr. J. Edgerloy having congratulated the members of the Board on the excellent services rendered by them to the district during the past twelve months, the chairman moved the adoption of the report and accounts. Mr. A. McDonald seconded, and "the motion was unanimously adopted.
