WHANGAREI. THE Manual and Public School Committet have handed over the management of the proposed classes and the nomination of teacher* to the local school committee. 1 The drought here has broken up. Vwy heavy rain fell on Monday night.
At the meeting of the Hockey Association on Monday night it was agreed that the season be opened on tho 25th inst. in Mr E O. Weaver's paddock. The cup matches will start the following week, Kirikiri to meet Huia and West End to meet Pirates. Mr. 11. E. Moore, assistant-postmaster at Whangarei. lias accepted a removal to Masterton on account of the district not agreeing with, the health of his wife. Before leaving Whangarei he was presented by the messengers and letter-carriers with a handsome silver-mounted walking-stick and a framed enlarged group of the present staff of the local post office. During his term of office in Whangarei Mr. Moore has made many friends, both in and out of the office. Hi place is being filled by Mr. Ross, late actingpostmaster at .St. Bathan's (Otago). "
PATEEANGI. The sale of work held here last week in aid of the funds of the new Presbyterian Church was most successful, but the promoters anticipated larger sales. The Rev. 8. Entrican in a short speech, declared the sale open' There was a fine display of articles in the various stalls. Mesdames Germann and Miller had charge of the woollen goodsMisses Miller and N. Sing, jumble stallMisses Germann and Kay, ladies' stall; Misses Bowman and Sing, fancy stall; Misse3 B Germann and G. Scott, children's stall. Mrs" Russell and the Misses McCallum and Scott were in charge of a large Easter tree. Refreshments were served in a marquee in charge of Mrs. W. Ala city, who was well assisted. The shooting gallery was well patronised in the evening, while the ladies' naildriving competition caused no end of fun, tljis being won by Miss Cubis, with Miss Giacie Germann a good second. The Rev Mr. Entrican sang " The Irish Emigrant," and the Misses Germann the duet, " Friendship." Mr. E. Robinson was present with his gramaphone. The gross proceeds amounted to about £29. The church is to be opened on tho 14th. inst. WATERVIEW.
OX Thursday. April 27, a social was held in the Waterview Primitive Methodist Church to welcome the Rev. (J. Clement, the newly-ap-pointed minister. There was an excellent attendance, the church being filled. The following contributed to un enjoyable programmer—Songs, by Mrs. Muir, Misses A. Chatty, A. Wilson, Messrs. Hartley, Sinclair, Hansom, and the Rev. W. S. Potter; Misses Carroll and Wilson, a duet; trio, by Misses Carroll and Chatty and Mr. Sansoru; recitation. Miss Ella Elling; readings, by the Rev. W. S. Potter and Mr. A. Service. Mr. D. Coldie presided. The Rev. G. Clement thanked all present for the hearty welcome extended to him. At the end of the programme refreshments were handed round by the ladies.
TE AWAMIITU.
The present will be a busy and somewhat exciting week here. On Wednesday the annual races are to take place, and also an election to fill two vacancies on the Town Board, there being three well-known candidates, viz.. Messrs. J. B. Teasdale. George Ahier. and James Mandeno. The folio wing day (Thursday) a poll will be taken upon a proposal to borrow £1000 lor the purpose of metalling a portion of the Te Awamutu-Kihikihi Road: while on Saturday an election to fill two vacancies on the Rangiaohia Road Board will take place, which day is also the Loan and Mercantile Agency Company's monthly salt day ' WARKWORTH.
HEAVY rains have fallen here, and our roads have all taken a wintry look. .lust abou' Warkworth, however, a few chains of metal has been put on the worst parts, which will be much appreciated later on.
HAMILTON-. MR. F. W. LANG, M.H.R., will address his constituents in the Hamilton Town Hall onThursday, the 18th inst. Messrs. Am bury and English have decided to erect two more creameries on the Matamata Estate next season: also, to erect two creameries near Woodlands. They also purpose to erect a most up-to-date butter factory at Prankton Junction. Thr output of 12 creameries will be deal' with at this factory. '
