SPEECH BY MR. MANDER, M.H.R.
Mil. F. MANDKIt, M.H.R. for Marsden, addressed his constituents ir Warkwdrth on Monday evening. Owing to insufficient advertising and bad weather there was not so large an audience as usual. # Mi. Mander speech dealt mostly with Mr. Seddoll's IS'Orthern tour, which, Mr. Mander asserted, was undertaken to injure, him at the coming election. Mr. Mander very forcibly dealt with the Black Bridge incident, and insisted that grants to local bodies Shouiu always come through proper channels, fcuci as tiie county councils. He trusted that the electors of Marsden would agree wit him and not give away their independence for a paltry grant for roads and ln-Klges., He hoped that before long a proper scheme would be evolved for the better distributing if public funds. Money could he found for Parliamentary trips, etc.. but was very scarce it wanted for needed punlio works There was such corruption in the Government that if ever it, needed watching it was now. lie had entered politics late m life, ami Mr. Seddun need no' be jealous of him for he'was still a follower of Mr. Massev, who was a leader with whom Mr. Seddon would have to count. Mr. Seddon as president of the Liberal and Labour' Federation, placed himself in a, false position, and was clearly antagonistic to the well-being of the farmer, judging by the platform which was read. The Opposition were in favour of easy land• sett raent and allowing the right to obtain the freehold to all alike. Mr. Seddon was taking great interest in the North just now, and no doubt hoped for great results from his visit,' but he (Mr. Mander) felt f sure thai ho had-not influenced a single vote any more than he did at the election when Mr, Massev defeated Mr. .lacksOu Palmer. Inc. Premier took the beating so badly on thai occasion that lie never came North again till recently. He felt certain that Marsckm was true, and he also thought that if, forty such members as lie (Mr. Marnier) had been returned. Mr. Sedodn would have been a better Premier. . Mr. It. Thompson, the late yieiubcr or Marsden. is now in the Warkworth «.istrict, and is preparing for the coming election. lie attended Mr. Mandor's meeting-, ami appeared to enjoy the wigging ->'!'. Seddon and his party got.—[Own Torres, pondent.j
