[BY TELEGRAPH. —I'IIESS ASSOCIATION.] Gketmouth, Monday. Mr. Morris, one of the borough councillors elected last week, resigned to-day, owing to a petition being lodged. He was one of the bondsmen for the Town Hall contract, and it is contended therefore thai he is not entitled to a seat on the Council. A wharf labourer named Petersen broke a blood vessel on Sunday evening, and died shortly afterwards. Several cases of diptheria have been reported, one case ending fatally. Wks'itoht, Monday. At the inquest touching the death of Charles McLean, of Addison, a verdict was relumed that (he deceased met his death by a fall of earth, being stunned and drowned, and that no blame was attachable to anyone. The coal output last week was 8804 tons 7cwt, of which 1881 tons 4cwt came from the Seddonvillo State mine, and 6923 tons 3cwt from the West-port Coal Company's mines. DUNEDIN, Monday. While on their way to a fire on Saturday night ten firemen on a reel were thrown out, owing to the carriage wheels skidding on the tram rails. The occupants of the reel were more or less bruised. ■ CmusTCHUKCH. Monday. At a conference regarding the proposed new bridge at Heathcote. a letter was road from the Minister for Marine stating that the Governor hud no power to declare the present bridge to be the limit of the navigation of the river as requested, and advising the local bodies to make a further endeavour to ooine to an arrangement with the Harbour Board. If was decided to obtain a report as to what form of bridge would best meet the requirements of the local bodies.
