POLICE COURT. NEWS.

Saturday's sitting of tho Polio© Court was bold before Mr. 8. E. McCarthy. S.M. Drunkenness: One first offender was fined 10s and costs, and two others, who did not appear at Court, were ordered to forfeit amount of bail, 20s. Unlawfully on Premises: Samuel Briggs pleaded not guilty to a charge of being found by night on the premises of 0. Little, Hob-son-street, without, lawful excuse. The defendant said lie had been invited there. A carter (oi Little said he Wd taken Briggs into the stables, but did not expect him t« stay there all night. It was evidently a misunderstanding on the defendant's part. SubInspoctoi Black said the accused had been given in charge by Mr. Little. The magistrate thought, the police were quite right in charging the defendant. He thought there had been a misunderstanding, and dismissed the case.

TAUMARUNUI S.M. COURT.

At a sitting ot tho S.M. Court, before Mr. H. W. Northcrcft, S.M., on tho 27t" ult., the following cases were decided: — Sly Grog Oases: R. Simpson, traveller, for delivery of whisky at Taumarunui in December last, was fined £30 and costs, £3 ss. A man named Tula was convicted of stealing three bottles of whisky frop the committee ol the Katkahi Racing Club, md fined £3 Is 3d and costs, £1. Mortimer Collins, for sending whisky from Taringamutu te Piriaka. was convicted, and fined £25 and costs, £6 Bs, ip default one month. For delivering whisky on March 31 at Taringamutu ho was also sentenced to two months' hard labour. Charles Steadmau was convicted and fined £20 and costs, or, in default, one mouth: for sending whisky from Taringamutu to Piriaka. Thomas Tuohey was convicted and fined £20 anil costs, £3 15s, for delivering whisky at Taumarunui; on another and similar charge the same defendant was ordered out of the King Country. "Pat" Kerr was convicted and fined £2 and costs, £3 3s, foi introducing liquor into a kainga. Cruelty to Animals: Martin Leo was convicted aiid fined £1 and costs, £1 17s, for cruelty to animals.

Civil Cases: Porter v. Bissott, £2 6s Id, judgment for plaintiff for amount claimed, with costs: 11. L. Potts v. Tommy Ngali for £4 4s 9d, judgment for plaintiff; J,odk v. MoGrath. judgment for plaintiff, with costs, for £3 12s.
