HOSPITAL AND CHARITABLE AID BOARD.

The Auckland Hospital and Charitable Aid Board met yesterday afternoon. There were present: Messrs. G. J. Garland (in the chair), A. Bruce, W. R. Bloomfield, J. Bollard, M.H.R.', and A. R. Harris. Mr. J. MeLeod (chairman- of the Board) attended! at the latter stage of the meeting, and took the chair.

Costley Wards: Four tenders were received for renewing the, steam pipes apparatus at the Costley wards at the hospital. The lowest tender'was unaccompanied by the, required deposit. The question of accepting' a tender was referred to the Hospital Committee.

Ambulance Charges: The chairman stated that as a case of overcharging for the use of the ambulance waggon had come under hirf notice, it was desired that the public .should know that the charge allowed by the lawwas 3s per hour for the use of the waggon and driver, and that persons using the ambulance should not pay more. * ;

Appointment of Collector: The Hospital Committee recommended that a clerk and collector be appointed at a salary of £100 a year. Mr. Garland moved, " That a 1 salary of £125 a year be given." The sum of £100 a year was not sufficient salary for a man who was expected to be honest. The chairman stated that while the .salary was not lavish, the clerk could have his meals al the hospital, and would not have a great deal of work to do, and the> committeethought that £100 was sufficient for a start. Mr. Garland's motion was lost, and the recommendation adopted. Tennis Courts: The Hospital Committee recomnu-nded that the tender of Mr. Knight (£9'!- ss) bo accepted for asphalting the tennis courts at the hospitaJ. The chairman explained that, a large amount of the moneyhad been raised by the nurses, and with the usual subsidy the amount was fully provided for. 'J'ho recommendation was adopted. The Costley Home : On the motion of Mr. Garland, it was decided that chairs bo pro-' vided for the inmates at the Cost-ley Home, : instead of the forms now in use. .
