Christchcrch, Wednesday. The jockey James McGuire, who was injured by his horse falling on him at the Akaroa Racing Club's Meeting on Saturday, showed the first signs of returning consciousness to-day. For the past four days he lias been fed through a tube, but to-day ho was ablo to swallow food. Although ho has be*u unconscious for a lengthy period the hospital surgeon htu> little doubt that he wril recover.
