The manager of the Reunion Sugar Estates in Natal says ho bought 18,000,000 tins for manure, and that the natives stole a number of tins and ate the meat without ill-effects. (Received March 19, 4.45 p.m.) London, March 18. Referring to the fact that a large quantity of jam sent from Australia to South Africa during the war was short in weight, the Secretary for War (Mr. Arnold Forster), has stated that in some cases nominal weight for colonial jam was agreed to. and in others nett weight was specified. The present inquiry had taken place, he added, because certain stocks regarded as nett weight had been subsequently discovered as being nominal weight.
