AUCKLAND AMATEUR J; ATHLETIC - CLUB.'\ ; i' •: ENTRIES FOR THIS INTERNATIONAL SPORTS MEETING. En-TKIKS for the international sports gathering, to lje held on the Domain Cricket Ground 011 Saturday, April 1, under the auspices of the Auckland Amateur Athletic and Cycle Club, were received at the rooms of the Amateur Sports Club on Saturday night by Mr. F. .1. Ohlson, lion, secretary of the club, and are very satisfactory. The famous athletes. A. E. Shrubb, the world's greatest distance runner, and A. 1". Duffey, holder of the world's record for 100 yds (9 3-55.), will compete in several of the events; also the two Australian cracks, G. A. Widnier (100 yds and 440 yds champion of New South Wales) and (J. A. Wheatley (distance champion of Victoria). In all probability Hector Burk. the lined in distance crack, who has recently put up some brilliant performances in the South, will also he invited to come to Auckland to run against Sluubb and Wheatley. Several entries have yet to come in from country districts, and the committee will keen the list open until Wednesday evenin"- next to enable any town runner's or cyclists who may wish to compete to enter for the sports. _______ GOLF. The opening of the Golf Club s season was to have taken place on Saturday afternoon, and notwithstanding the ram which fell (linine the morning a number of enthusiast!!, players put in an appearance, for the mixed foursomes, with which the season was to lie inaugurated. At half-past, two however, the rain was falling so persistently that, the committee decided to postpone the. function. \ <>ood number of men went round, m spite of the bad weather, while putting matches were played by., the ladies on the green at the clubhouse, and aroused a great deal ot interest. Four distances were fixed, from which the competitors were, required to hole out, and tire competitions resulted as follows:—(1) Won bv Mrs. A. Clark in 10; 2) won bv Miss G. Bttller in 10; (3) won by Mr* W. 11. Uloomfield in S; (4) won by Mrs. ■V C. Purchas in 10. after playing off a tie with Mis* Buller. The postponed foursomes will probably be played next Saturday afternoon. The annual meeting-of the club was also postponed, on account of the weather, and will be held on a date to bo announced later. The links are in excellent order at present, only requiring a littlo rain to make them in first-class condition. HAMILTON SPORTS. On St. Patrick's Day a sports meeting was held on Sydney Square. Hamilton, in aid of the funds of the Catholic Church. The proceedings opened with a procession of children attending the Hamilton and Cambridge schools. Frank I'ordc yesterday threw the 161h hammi 4fc. 6i handle, m the Scotch style, 126 ft, Sin. being 3ft 9?in better than Cameron's record -throw. The famous Donald Dinnie frequently threw the hammer over 130 ft, and on one occasion 138 ft, but these were not officially recorded.
