AUCKLAND HAND CONTEST DINNER.
Mb. F. E. Baumk, M..11.R., presided at a. dinner given by the committee of the recent band contest in Auckland. Bandmaster 0. Trussell proposed " The Auckland Band Contest Committee,and said that the business undertaken in fear and trembling had been carried through with entire success. Mr. Baume presented, Mr. Rowlands with a shield of photographs of the committee, with their best wishes. He said the committee had every reason to fool gratified at the success of the contest, which appeared to be the best ever held in th colony. Mr. Rowlands recognised the good work done by the Citizens' Committee and by Mr. G. Hume, without whose aid the contest, would not have succeeded. Mr. Baume, 011 behalf of Lieutenant J. Endean, presented Mr. G. Hume with a beautiful gold medal. Mr. Hume, in responding, said Lieutenant Endean had been one of the most energetic workers of the committee, and had spared neither expense nor time in his efforts to ma,ke the affair a success. He explained that the work was full of anxiety, because they had to make up the £1000 expenses before they could feel easy. Responding to the toast of " The Visitors," Bandmaster Molu- remarked that the contest' had been, the greatest held, and the standard of music the highest, ever reached in the colony. Mr. A. W. Tattoo (secretary) was presented by Mr. Geo. Hume with a fine shield of photographs. Gold medals presented by Lieutenant J. Endean were given to Messrs. H. G. Hill (treasurer). A. W. Tatton, Williamson, and Rowlands.
