Mr. J. C. Wilkin, president of the New Zealand Newspaper Proprietors Association, is at present in Auckland. The Rev. F. Stubbs, of Rotorua, is in Auckland, and will preach at St. David's Presbyterian Church on Sunday next. i At the last meeting of the Patea Harbour Boar:! Mr. J. A. M'cKenna was elected chairman for the fifth time in succession. Mr. and Mrs. Martin Kennedy, of Wellington, who have been on a visit to Rotorua, returned to Auckland yesterday, and leave for the South to-day. A Dunedin Press Association telegram states that Miss Haigh, mistress of the Al-bany-street school, lias been appointed kindergarten instructor at the Normal College. Mr. W. S. Reid, ex-Solicitor-General, who resigned the chairmanship of the Land Commission, owing to ill-health, and was contined to his bed for some time, is now able to get about again. Mr. Thos. Dick, for many years connected with the New Zealand Accident Insurance Company, will proceed vo England shortly to enjoy a well-earned holiday. He will leave about the end of the present month to join the Athenio from Wellington, and he contemplates returning by this line by way of Capetown. Mr. Ceo. Throssel, ex-Premier of ' West Australia, is about to tour New Zealand, in order to recuperate his broken health, which ■lias caused him to retire from politics. He •has been a member of the. West Australian Parliament ever since the country- was given responsible government in IoSO, and he succeeded Sir .John Forrest as Premier. Mitss Helen Cad.litk. a world-wide traveller, who jo;u.ne_».td through Central Africa some years ago, and embodied her observations in a book entitled " A Woman in. Central Africa," arrived at Wellington by the i'oiigariro from London, and left on Wednesday night for. Auckland by the Eotoiti.
