Withdrawn: The charge against Stephen Neary of wilfully damaging a'pane of glass, the property, of the Auckland Racing Club, was withdrawn at the instance of the club's secretary, who said that Neary ■ had since paid the damages, and. apologised. ■"- A By-law Cass: A penalty of 2s 6d and costs was imposed* on a boy named Claude Marmont, who 'pleaded guilty to a' charge of driving fit': other: than a walking pace round the corner of Symonds-streeb and Karangabap© Road.' On being informed that the accused .was only arrested on the arrival of the Sierra that morning, the magistrate granted the application. A Maraetai Assault Case-,'.' A Maraetai farmer, represented by Mr;';,Mahony, '> took proceedings against Bella Shelly, his sister-in-law, for assault. It appeared, according to the evidence, that. as the result of 5a .disturbance between .the complainant and his wife on the 'morning of November 13, the latter' went over to her mother's where she-'met the accused and her" brother, Albert Jacobs.. :■ The accused 'and Jacobs said that -Mrs. Spencer requested; them come to her house and open a drawer, as the key was last, and that; she also) informed them that her husband, /the prosecutor, had threatened to split ; : her head open with "an axe. On arriving at the 'bouse, Jacobs proceeded to'work-with* a hammer and chisel. The prosecutor said that he then arrived upon the scene. On requesting Jacobs to go, he met with a refusal, and so he endeavoured to put him out of the house himself. ■ Jacobs retaliated, and while they were. senffling there Mrs* Shelly /..attacked' him from behind with a stick, four feet long, and' as thick as a man's thumb,/ punishing him severely. The result was that between the two of them he'was badly knocked about.'
