Whitest a native interpreter named Balneavis '.»»"'« away at the golf tournament in Duncdin, his residence was broken into, and property worth £300 stolen, including a valuable collection of Maori curios, a violin over 100 years old, and £50 in cash. Two attempts were made to fire the dwelling/- Balnea vis received an anonymous letter statins; that the perpetrator of the crime was on his way to America, with the articles! stolen. Last evening Detective Nixon arrested a young native named Tuta Huia at the residence of Tuta Nihon>ho. The young man violently resisted arrest, and iu a furious melee; which took place, the detective being single-handed, the prisoner escaped.
