Valentino Cameron Prinsep WiU born .! in 1833, and was l the son of Mr. Hi Thoby ' Piinsep, member of the Council of India. 'He wis elected: A-R-A. in 1879 and R.A. In 1894* He had; exhibited at the \ Royal AcJadiMfty since, 1862. He was professor of painting to the Royal Academy. *» 1876 he wont to India to paint the scene at the declaration'.of- Queen Victoria as Empress, and the piettire Wis exhibited in 1880. His i 1897 Academy picture was "At the First ToUch of Winter SummPf. Fades Away." He trail also an author, arid published " libperial India," "Ah Artist's Journal." '" '~;, SECT. London* November id. s Mr, George L. Watson, the yachtr designer, is dead. Mr. Watson was born at Giasjjpw in A&sl, ;.' and was the son df'a doctor of. ' medicice. He Was educated at the High School , arid ■; the Collegiate School, Glasgow '.' In 1367 he ; was apprenticed to Robert Napier and Son, shipbuilders, and later to A; and 3. Inglis. In 1872 he started business as a naval archie tect, and the following year made his first hit with the five-ton racing yacht Oiotilde. He built the 90-ton yacht Vttnduara in 1880 for Ait. John Clark, of Paisley, and she at once : achieved ' fame by , beating : ; the . yacht | Formosa,Y belonging to the then Prince of i Wales. In 1887 he built the Thistle to cdm- .!' pete ' for the " America / Cup j Y afterwards i Valkyrie 11. and: Valkyrie Til., and in 1893 } designed the cutter Britannia for the then Prince of Wales. The Britannia is regarded as perhaps the most successful racing yacht ever built. He ;also designed many steam yachts and mercantile steamers, and in all was responsible for the .plans of,, a .fleet of more than 400 Vessels;: He. had declinedi to design a yacht for Sir, Thomas, Liptbn to challenge wtyh for the America Gup.
