ST. JOHN'S COLLEGE.
We publish in another column an appeal signed by the Anglican Bishops in Hew Zealand on behalf of funds for the carrying on of the work of St, John's College, Auckland. This college, founded by Bishop Sehvyn, was originally intended for men reading for any profession as well as for Holy Orders. Although for a time this design Was departed from, it ii now being faithfully adhered to, but ■it » ' * * Lin Si :i.i.-.ij.'-- i ii : ,M» ».. ti -,i ■
*;" the usefulness of the college is seri- ■' ously handicapped and restricted a owing to the want of funds. The 11 financial assistance required is hot * much. All that is "asked for is a sum e . of £000 for the General Fund, the ° ! endowments fori which do not yield 8 Biifficient for the demands .upon it: l * It is estimated that/ &is amount will 9 be enough to meet requirements l until the assembling of the General fc Synod in 1907, when the whole .posi-. * tion will be gone into and adequate * provision made for carrying on the 3 work.of the college. We hope the " appeal will meet with a generous f and prompt response, and that an r institution SO intimately connected * with the history pi the colony will be fc placed unon a financial footing that J will enable it to more widely extend * the. advantages it offers. • 1 fvl
