TO THIS EDITOR. > ' Sir,—l read in your issue of November 1 what appears to be a verbatim report of Canon'Beatty's sermon on " Righteous War." It is painful to • contemplate an i ordained minister of a Christian Church openly advocating war, and to my mind 1 savours of " wresting the Scriptures to our destruction." Will Canon Beatty carefully re-peruse the fifth chapter of St. Matthew's gospel, also the 26th chapter of same, verses 50 to 52. We ate living umier the Christian dispensation, and I for one fail to see the slightest warrant in the Gospel for war or the taking of human life under any circumstances whatever.
