At the Farmers' Union conference to-day dissatisfaction was expressed with the| present system of valuing improvements on ' land,; and the following motion was carried: —"That the Government be asked to :give; a full explanation, of the basis adopted 'by the Valuation of Land Department for arriving at :the"value of all" improvements'■ by drawing up a schedule setting out what con-1 stitutes improvements, and what; are ; the ; maximum amounts allowed by.the Departs ! ment: for each -class .also that lib private instructions should be issued to Government valuators bearing on this matter by ; the Government,' or by officers of the Valuation "i of Land Department, unless sucb are at the same time published and circulated to the various branches of the Farmers' Union, for the information of farmers. The conference closed after fire insuranoE* matters had been discussed in comiiuttee. , j
