Thbeb aoiridrats occurred during the racing at the Auckland Rack's Clubs Spring Meetiax at EUersbe yesterday afternoon, the first resulting in the loss of » racehorse. •- This wse in tie Musket Stakes, for two-year-olds, 1 1 ia. which the colt Auster, owned by Mr. R. ' Millet, swerved as the field closed in at the home turn., and in attempting sto jump the rails was staked, and killed instantaneously. A rail (4in by Ala) entered the animal's near shoulder, and- passing through the body came out on the other side, neai the rib*. The rider, Gray, was thrown, and scrambling under the rails escaped without a scratch. ;. : In v the same race (Musket Stakes) the favourite, Annette, dislodged \ her -rider (Sceats) , before the field? had gone, half-a-furlohg, and as this happened at the spot where the horses Cymbal and Grouchy fell and were killed outright on Saturday last, , the stewards of the club decided to meet on the course on Saturday morning next, with a view to ascertaining whether,,that particular part of the course is dangerous and requires attention!. Sceats, the rider, ■ got off with a few bruises and a severe shaking. The horse Reckless fell at the first jump in, the Onehunga Steeplechase, and appeawd to roll over her rider, Howie, who, however, was soon on his feet again, little the worse for the mishap. ; _______________________ / - ■ == 'i »
